Bethesda Hospital Expansion

April 23, 2025

On Friday, April 11th, 2025, the Bethesda Foundation was honored to present a cheque to Southern Health for funds that will go towards the new surgery department and palliative care rooms that are currently being constructed at the hospital. Bethesda Foundation has committed a total of $8 million towards these two initiatives.

The surgery department is being expanded to include three new operating rooms, a consultation room, 12 spots for patient care before and after surgery, rooms for sterilizing and storing equipment, a reception and waiting area, a larger lab for modern diagnostic tools, a cultural space for multi-faith services, and more space for doctors and residents, including three on-call sleep rooms.

The palliative care upgrades include seven private patient rooms designed to feel more comfortable and less clinical, with warm colors, wood finishes, and artwork. Each room will have a view of green space and technology for virtual calls with loved ones. There will also be a large family room with cozy furniture, a fireplace, microwave, and coffee maker, plus a spiritual room for multi-faith services.

Southern Health hopes to complete this project in spring of 2026. Full news article can be found here.
